Symantec's Norton AntiVirus™ (9.5/10 Top Recommendation)

I used SAM (Symantec Antivirus for Mac) to clean up the virus I talked about above.  Since then, I have used Norton/Symantec extensively on the computers I use, build and sell. Over those 8 years I have found Norton to be easy to use, and very effective.  I particularly like the automatic update features that keep the software and virus definitions up-to-date without me ever having to do a thing.  I set my copy to run a complete system scan every Sunday at midnight.  It is a good idea to set your anti-virus software to run weekly as well after you install it.

Norton says it is...

NEW! Expanded threat detection alerts you to certain non-virus threats such as spyware and keystroke logging programs.

  • NEW! Scans compressed file archives before you open them and risk infecting your computer.
  • Automatically removes viruses, worms, and Trojan horses.
  • LiveUpdate™ downloads new virus protection updates automatically to protect against the latest threats†.
  • Worm Blocking and Script Blocking can detect new threats even before virus protection updates are created for them.
  • Data recovery protects and restores important applications and files from accidental deletion.
  • Data cleaning thoroughly deletes unneeded confidential files.

You simply can't go wrong protecting your computer with Norton products (Mac or Windows).  I really suggest getting a complete system package (like System Works) along with the Anti-Virus software.  This will keep your system running in top performance with only a few mouse clicks each week.
